Well, your probably all wondering why things have gone a little quiet lately. I've been off having the time of my life - raising my SON! Ollie arrived on a sunny afternoon late August, and oh my, he's kept me on my toes ever since. But now we are well on our way into 2016, I'm back with a vengeance.. and have lots of wonderful plans for the year! Whilst scrolling Instagram (check us out - @ellemaverickevents), I found a GORGEOUS wedding dress designer that I just had to share with you all. Berta Bridal dresses can only be explained as timeless, elegant designs, created to show off your true inner and outer beauty. Each design has its own unique identity, so plenty for you ladies to choose from. Feast your eyes on these. How beautiful is the '16-09' design? It had me swooning from the moment I saw it. I love a dress with sparkle, and this one is certainly a head turner. I also love the fishnet sleeves... something I have never seen before on a wedding dress. And as for the back... well, it speaks for itself. A handcrafted flower lace underneath with demur cap sleeves an illusion neckline and back that moves into a detachable over skirt...what's not to love?! The '16-05' is definitely a fairy-tale wedding dress. Stunning handcrafted lace gown with dazzling silver embellishments across the neckline a back opening and train edges. This style is a Berta signature silhouette with a long dramatic train. *blurb* ^ Kim Kardashian eat your heart out. The '16-30' is a stunning design with handcrafted long lace sleeves. The keyhole open back, and illusion appliques across the high and low waist, make this figure hugging design a perfect choice for those with an hourglass figure. Wowzers.. I have been an extremely busy bear lately - so so sorry for the lack of posts and inspirational tips on the blog here at Elle Maverick Events. Today however, we have a little treat for you! I found the glorious Lola via social networking sites (how most wonderful working relationships bloom these days!) and just couldn't wait to introduce her to you..... With an individual and quirky style - Lola's wonderful flowers are quirky, cool and vibrant... perfect for any outdoor wedding. Rather than rambling on, I will let you meet the face behind 'Walnut and Willow'.. over to Lola! My name is Lola Holmes and my company is Walnut & Willow, a flower business specialising in weddings and events. My style is natural and timeless creating subtle statements with an artistic twist. I have been in the Florist industry for the past 4 years after graduating with a Fine Art degree. I have worked in 3 busy florist shops in the North and South of the country which has given me vast experience in every aspect of floristry. I also have a Foundation diploma in Professional Wedding planning & Event management from The Wedding Planner School, London which has given me an insight into all areas of the wedding and event industry. I mainly cover South Wales (from January) however do go further afield if required. I have weddings in Kent and Cirencester next year to give you an example. My boyfriend is a serving member of the British Army and so that massively influences the style of wedding we will have (one day!!) I can imagine having a wedding that is dominated with flowers in any area I could find, although not too over the top. I take a lot of inspiration for my weddings from different eras as I always think although I would want the day to be stunning, I would want to look back at my photographs and for them to look timeless. I love French, rustic mixed with hunter lodge style and so would probably go with this type of theme and not red, white and blue as most people would associate with military weddings. No wedding or event is too big or too small and no idea is too extravagant or too subtle. I love working with brides who have weird and wacky ideas and creating things outside of the box and I love a bride who is daring to be different. Parties and events are amazing to work for as they are normally for celebrations or milestones of someone's life or a company celebrating a number of years in business or celebrating by having Christmas parties. These are great fun to cater for as they normally want some statement flowers which is always amazing to be a part of. All of my work is bespoke to the customers requirements and each wedding or event is unique from the last and so prices are based on individual quotes. I love meeting my clients to get a better picture of who they are and what they are looking for as it helps me build up a greater understanding of their needs. T: 07805 397667
E: lola@walnutandwillow.co.uk W: www.walnutandwillow.co.uk F: www.facebook.com/walnutandwillowflowers Hello there you guys...here is a little interview we conducted a few days ago with the lovely Louisa at Fawlty Flowers. Thought it would be the perfect little read for you guys coming across from #weddinghour on Twitter! If you don't already follow us, please do! We tweet about all things wedding... @maverickbrides :D Hey there you! We simply adore your flowers, could you please briefly tell our readers all about yourself and your wonderful little company? Flowers were a bit like a good old cup of tea when I was younger as no matter the occasion – whether it be a birthday or just to cheer you up - a bunch of them was always given. As much as I loved receiving flowers, I always felt a bit disappointed as the thought behind the person giving them somehow was never recreated by the display. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with catalogues and traditional bouquets but I felt they were a bit stale and impersonal – especially flowers for wedding and special occasions. So, I started experimenting with different colours, flowers and props, and Fawlty Flowers was born! We love the name of your company... are we right in thinking you got your inspiration from Fawlty Towers? It is indeed – Sybil Fawlty is an absolute comedy classic! I wanted a name that stood out and caught people’s attention – and I love its play on words! But, just to reassure everyone, I don’t put the flowers through the dishwasher like Basil does in ‘The Hotel Inspectors’! Amazeballs! What kind of services can our clients choose from? It’s all about creating beautiful pieces that reflect the personality of the occasion and the people involved, so that’s my starting point. I approach each piece with a blank piece of paper, have a conversation to find out more about the couple and then set my imagination free. Favourite films, special songs, materials, colours or even food can set a spark going! I’ll then come back with some themes and designs, and we take it from there. We have had a little nosy at your previous designs, and have been SWOONING over your Alice in Wonderland display! I LOVE the Alice design – it’s one of my favourites and a piece I had a lot of fun creating! It was for a birthday party and all started with a conversation that revealed a childhood love of Alice in Wonderland. I didn’t really want to go down the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party route but his top hat seemed a perfect substitute for a vase! The quirky nature of cabbage flowers and electric colours of Chrysanthemums are so Lewis Carroll – and of course, I had to finish it off with the Queen of Hearts and little 'Drink Me' trinket! Oh, so creative! Do you have any exciting projects in the pipeline? I’m gearing up for Christmas and have a few bespoke pieces in the pipeline, so am feeling quite festive at the moment. One is a festive fish tank (complete with fishing game) and the others are some alternative table centre pieces – ones that don’t involve snow sprayed pine cones! There is also a wonderful Wizard of Oz piece in development that I’m really excited about as it’s going to be very red and sparkly! So we know all about your little business... now tell us about you! Are you married? I’m not married but have been dropping hints that I want to be by the time I’m 40… so the clock is ticking! I’d like my wedding day to be really intimate, personal and typical ‘us’. As you may have gathered, I don’t really go for the ‘cutter cake’ approach, so for me it’s about making sure the small details are right so you can relax and enjoy a memorable day celebrating with the people who mean the most to you. Where are you based and how far are you willing to travel for brides to be? I’m pretty flexible and my motto is ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way’ but as a general guide, I’m based in Essex so am in easy reach of London and the South East. Eeeek how wonderful. Thank you for your time, we have loved hearing all about Fawlty Flowers! How can our clients get in touch with you? You can find out more about us, along with all the details on how to contact us, at www.fawltyflowers.co.uk What about social networking sites? We love to keep in touch!
Tiaras are a bit too “blingy” for your wedding? How about a more boho approach? Floral crowns are the perfect mix of nature and elegance. Some brides don’t feel comfortable wearing a veil as they feel it suffocates them, so a simple headpiece still gives the bride a glamorous feel. Most florists will now make these floral crowns to order and, depending on which season your ceremony falls in to, you could have beautiful roses, lilies or smaller sunflower buds placed on top over your neat up-do or mermaid curls. Floral crowns allow an air of creativity and customisability to your day – don’t like that flower there? Move it! It’s that simple. Why not have a few of your wedding party round for a few drinks, a quick catch up and all make floral crowns together? Imagine the look on a little flower girl’s face when you can give her her very own, bespoke, circlet of bright and striking flowers. Check out my favorite styles below... Good afternoon lovelies.. I stumbled across this BEAUTY of a dessert table on Pinterest and just couldn't wait to share it with you. How awesome are the collective colours and the upbeat bohemian features?! I've been swooning ever since I laid eyes on it. Each individual element of the display is easy and simple to create.. for instance the home-made macaroons and wonderfully chic table throw! All in all, its the hues of pink, orange, marigold and cornflower blue.. which make this display simply to die for.
This gorgeous design has inspired me to do a wee post this week on styling tips and tricks for desert tables. So don't forget to check back for part 2 of this weeks Maverick Madness. But for now... please do follow us on Facebook and Twitter x |
